Snøhetta is an international architecture / landscape / interior / art / product / graphic design firm with offices in Oslo, Norway, and seven locations worldwide in New York, Paris, Hong Kong, Innsbruck, Adelaide, and San Francisco, and more than 350 staff.
Major works include “Oslo Opera House” in Norway, “National September 11 Memorial & Museum” on the site of the World Trade Center in New York, “Bibliotheca Alexandria” in Egypt, and “Beijing sub-centre library” in Beijing, China.
The most important feature of them is that it is a leader in “sustainable architecture” in the world.
Their corporate philosophy is that “architecture and design can contribute to the improvement of society and the environment,” and it aims not only to create beautiful architecture but also to contribute to climate change problems and sustainability.
A symbolic example of this is the Powerhouse project.
Using state-of-the-art insulation technology, the building’s energy consumption per year is reduced by 70% and the solar panels covering the entire building generate more electricity than it consumes.
In addition, efficient heating and cooling is also achieved by using a geothermal power generation system.
Surplus power is stored in storage batteries and then sent to nearby buildings and transportation.
They are highly regarded for their environmental design that integrates a building with nature.
“Viewpoint,” which was built in a national park to observe wild reindeer, was designed to blend in beautifully with the natural landscape while also minimizing its environmental impact.
Moreover, they have created a lot of works that make the earth’s landscape, such as Europe’s first underwater restaurant, “Under”.
BOND will try to solve various social problems facing the world with Snøhetta as its first ecosystem (partner company).
