~ Under planning for the largest redevelopment in the history of National Parks of Japan ~

BOND, Inc. (Headquarter: Chiyoda-ku/Tokyo, Representative Director: Marei Oshima, hereinafter referred to as “BOND”), together with Snøhetta, a top runner in sustainable architecture, announced concept design for the redevelopment in a National Park of Japan.

▼ Changing Japan and the world with the Ecosystem:

BOND is a team established in Japan that aims to solve social issues by connecting top-tier companies around the world and forming the “Ecosystem”.

BOND recognizes that Japan is as “the most developed country facing multitude challenges in the world”. Japan is facing a number of issues such as a super-aging society, a labor shortage due to a declining birthrate, low wages for workers, the decline of rural areas, energy issues, a low food self-sufficiency rate, and an ever-increasing number of natural disasters. These issues are intricately intertwined.

If Japan can establish a methodology of solution to these complex social issues, it could become an innovative role model that realizes a sustainable world. This is because the fundamental challenges which Japan is currently facing are ones that the world will definitely encounter in the future.

BOND, founded in 2022, is executing the establishment of the “Ecosystem” on a global scale in order to form “methods to solve social issues” from Japan ahead of the world.
By fostering collaboration and leveraging the expertise of diverse entities, including top-tier companies, BOND seeks to lead the way in innovative problem-solving.

By addressing Japan’s challenges head-on, BOND aims to contribute to a more sustainable world and to create positive change that extends beyond the country’s borders.

▼ Promote solutions to social issues demonstrating in a National Park of Japan as a field:

BOND first focused on national parks in Japan as a field solving social issues.

BOND has welcomed Snøhetta, a globally acclaimed “transdisciplinary practice”, as its first “Ecosystem partner”.

With roots in Oslo, Norway, Snøhetta has nine regional studios around the world covering architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, art, product design, graphic and digital design.

Environmental and social sustainability is at the forefront of Snøhetta’s approach; promoting design as a positive force in the world. In the conception of the studio, the Brundtland Commission’s UN report on sustainability “Our Common Future” was a source of inspiration. Today their design encourages the thriving of lifeforms while considering sustainable materials, positive energy and water resource management, carbon emissions and waste control.
BOND and Snøhetta share a vision to enable “closeness to nature” while preserving the intrinsic charm and beauty of the National Park and supporting the well-being of local communities.

BOND and Snøhetta will cooperate with each other for “the National Park Redevelopment Project” which BOND will continue to promote in close collaboration with Japanese ministries, local governments, and local communities.

We aim to shed new light on the inherent charm of a National Park, including environmental education through hands-on experiences within a National Park and the promotion of local decarbonization. We will create a completely new global “Ecocycle” that goes beyond mere architecture, and works closely with the local community to solve social issues.

▼ Announcement of concept design for the National Park Redevelopment Project:

BOND and Snøhetta will reveal some of the concept designs for a redevelopment project in a certain national park in Japan.

The redevelopment includes a variety of ideas, including a luxury hotel, wellness spa, restaurants, educational facilities and activities.

BOND and Snøhetta have already completed concept designs for multiple redevelopment sites, and we are proceeding with more specific feasibility studies.

From now on, BOND will play a central role in establishing an Ecosystem to promote these redevelopments. The Ecosystem includes a wide range of partners including the world’s leading hotel, wellness, healthcare, fashion, food, technology and financial companies, as well as ministries and local governments, moreover including local primary industry stakeholders.

This redevelopment project is scheduled to be the largest in the history of National Parks of Japan.

▼ Comment from Marei Oshima, CEO of BOND:

I am very excited that Snøhetta as a world-renowned architectural design firm, empathizes with BOND’s vision to “solve Japan’s complex social issues” and will provide cooperative support. Rather than merely developing buildings and facilities as a developer, we involve top-tier partners from a wide variety of industries on a global scale to establish an Ecosystem. This is an extremely challenging initiative that has yet to be seen anywhere in the world. As a first step in this challenge, we are proud to announce this initiative with Snøhetta.

Verification of the <hypothesis> of “the cooperation of diverse Ecosystems around the world will lead to the solution of social issues” will begin in earnest. We are strongly confident that this initiative is the starting line for solving social issues.

BOND will continue to aim to establish Ecosystem in a global scale and further accelerate the involvement of top-tier partners.

▼ Comment from Richard Wood, Managing Director Asia of Snøhetta:

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with BOND, an organization dedicated to prioritizing people and working towards a brighter future for special regions in Japan. Our shared belief in a sustainable future and our commitment to integrating unique site conditions, local resources, and culture has brought us together.

Our collective goal is to develop delicate architectures that blend seamlessly with nature whilst promoting balance and well-being in local communities.
